It's astonishingly hard to get a good haircut
The last truly good haircut I had was in El Paso. Here in semi-rural North Carolina, the choices are amazingly bad.
In addition to the all too common situation where the barber doesn't actually listen to what I want or do what I ask, I have had:
- two where the barber/stylist suggested the moon landing was faked
- at least two where people left hair around my ears and claimed it was 'hard to see'
- multiple places that are appointment-only and make it impossible, or nearly-so, to actually make an appointment
- multiple places that are uninvitingly nationalistic
- places where the music was explicit and discussions about weekend plans freely mentioned excessive drinking or smoking weed
- places that have left me waiting well over half an hour, even when I put my name on the list in advance
